Fall Wonderland

I’m in the Denver area for a few days, and yesterday I went for a solo hike in the Chicago Lakes area near Mount Evans. I knew it would much colder here than Saigon (or New Orleans, where I was previously), but I couldn’t believe it when I came around a corner in my rental car on the drive up to the trailhead and saw a healthy dusting of snow.

I carried on to the start of the trail, and once I got into the woods it was a pure winter wonderland — in September. Fortunately I had enough gear to stay warm (minus my feet at times), but this was my first time hiking in snow, and it was completely unexpected. It sure was pretty though, and I had the trail to myself the entire time.
